Hi

I dont know what you mean with "RH8" but the Development Envoirement is designed for Redhat7. It should and does work on nearly every X86 Distribution, i use Debian ...

Moved to 'questions and answers'.

To answer your question: Any Linux distribution for the x86 achitecture will suffice.

for example (i'm using that)

Fedora Core 1 (complete install) will do the job and perhaps Core2 or any newer fedora will

Yes - I can confirm that Fedora2 can be used as well.

While any distro should be able to do the cross compiling(quite possible that you can even do it under Mac OS X), I would suggest debian because it has the added benefit of having mipsel distro too.

I am in the process of setting up such a thing(basically done, I can chroot into it and run things there) so that I can use every packages found in debian, no more cross compiling(especially for things that is not core, like testing things out). If things goes well, I may be able to create a native development environment there and build apps for the WL500G(and WRT54G). A WRT54G V2 or S would be better in this regard as it is faster :-)
