View Full Version : WL500G and WL-HDD
Hi,
The WL-HDD looks like a very interesting addition to my WLAN, but before I go out and buy one I'd like to check the following with someone who knows a bit more about this stuff than me :D ...
I would like to integrate the HDD in the WLAN through the WL500G. I would like to use the LAN interface on the HDD to connect to a KISS player, and use the HDD as a router for the KISS (or should it be a bridge?).
So:
[WL500G] <--- wireless ---> [WL-HDD] <--- ethernet ---> [KISS player]
Is there any chance I would get this to work?
Thanks,

Some of us are busy to build a very fast WL-HDD solution with 3,5"disk with a higher access time!
See: http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=906
You can only try to buy a notebook disk with a very fast acces-time and try it. If you want to try it, please send us the results!!
Well, for storing video's a laptop harddisk is simply second choice because lack of sufficient space and high costs/Mb. Advantages are its low power consumption and space requirements. If you're looking for a video storage box I recommend you get yourself a 3.5" disk... Purely on a performance point of view a 2.5" would suffice because every modern HDD will give you more then 5 Mb/s streaming data.
If you want to stream DivX video of a HDD connected to a WL-500g -> just forget it. The USB 1.1 11Mbit (around 600 Kbyte usable) bandwith is just not enough, wait for the new WL-500gx or get the WL-HDD if you want to stream video. For streaming Mp3's the WL500g is sufficient.
I'll keep this in mind:

But... For now, my plan was to add a HDD to the KISS player, and play from there. However, will this network setup work? It's basically a wireless bridge I think, where the WL500G serves the WL-HDD. (I can at the same time be used by WLAN cards on other computers, if I set it to hybrid, correct?)

Are you kidding? :D
