I've plugged my usb pen into my wl500g and set up a ftp server, which is accesible from both my 2 connected pc's via 192.168.1.1. But I want to acces my ftp server from the internet so I can store files there when I'm not at my computer at home. But it doesn't seem to work. What do I have to change in the settings of the wl500g to make this work? I have firmware 1.8.1.9 installed and my wl500g's WAN port is connected to my Alcatel Speedtouch 510 ADSL Modem(not the 4 ports router version). I've read a couple of topics here but I can't find the answer to my question.

Under Ip configuration WAN - LAN in the setup program you need to specify a fixed ip address for WAN as supplied by you ISP - I think. It won't be 192.168.1.1 all wl-500g have that ip address (thats fine on the LAN but not the WAN).

You have to have your own individual address to log into

As I've said in your other topic about this: search the forum, your questions have been asked and answered before.

So no need to come down on us now.

u may be right,but...

1)answers are hard to find here because they are spread all over the forum

2)the router isnt bad but needs a master guide to get him running
(noone created thus)

3)when more than 3 people asking the same problem, doesnt this ment it isnt understood what heres told in chupa´s?

4)its very fine that all others members going right with the router ,but im a dumber person (only mcse MS,computer techincan, german),i am not able to get the right information out of this forum

http://files.wl500g.info/asus/wl500g/setup/
has some information perhaps more could be put here - the wl-500g does a lot of jobs - print server - wireless router - ftp server - it has a lot of settings and these settings are going to be different for each individual.

This forum is to help people get the most out of their router - if asus doesn't support with good help we help each other.

If you are frustrated with level of support this is not the venue to complain try asus.

I am new to all this I do not understand 1/4 of what is discussed here but have been able to get my system up and running after many days of frustration. When I did I copied all my settings as a backup should anything ever go wrong. I have replaced some settings with xxx.xxx. as I am unsure of security ramifications.
but below are some links to the way my wl-500g is set up
I hope they are helpful to someone?
