i just use the several rules in firewall, the router always restart periodically. it seems that depends on the traffic.
i use the drop option at LAN-WAN. i also tried WAN-LAN and other firewall setting. router restart sometime even no firewall rules, but that 's much less than using firewall.
i 've tried v1.7.5.6 (official) v.1.8.1.x and v1.7.5.9 crX, all the same.
any solution?
Disable firewall logging.

already disable,
currently, i use 1.7.5.9 cr5,
i am trying the WAN connection setting. speed change seems no use. i change the type to bigpond, although my connection is telewest cable modem and no user & pass.
in test, if ok , i will report.

it still loop starting after a period. anybody has the good suggestion?
i just use the several rules in firewall, the router always restart periodically.
It's probably unrelated, but I noticed that if I connect from the LAN to the WAN's IP address, it causes my WL-500g to reboot. The box is configured in a "typical home setup" with NAT.
More specifically, say my LAN is 192.168.1.x and my WAN's dynamic IP is stored
in myhome.dyndns.org, the router reboots whenever I do "telnet myhome.dyndns.org"
from one of the192.168.1.x machines.
This is with firmware 1.7.5.9-CR3.

It's probably unrelated
it 's related, when i didn't using the firewall rules, router may reboot same time, but much less. DROP option causes the many problem than ACCEPT.
is that means ASUS router is not stable enough for the router role? who use the stable firmware with motorola SB4100 cable modem? which version?
i am disappointed to WL-500G, if i know that i will buy Linksys WRT54 GS.

Most likely those problems are the same for any router based on a 2.4 Linux kernel.

official v1.8.1.7 seems stable for me. before upgraded, router always reboot after a while, when firewall rules applied.
i upgraded to that today's morning, before that i downgraded to official lower version, restore the factory setting, press reset button, then upgraded and reset.
this version seems more stable than others i used, although it has some small problem. the port range that can't pick it from web config correctly. but that doesn't matter.
1. save the uncompleted setting to CFG (about 10K), if yours is too big > 20K, that means some old setting are in the CFG file.
2.modify port range in the CFG file using word pad, then save that and upload to router.
although i still use the firewall rules, the router already over 12 hours without reboot. maybe it relate the port trigger setting. i leave blank in new firmware, i will test that later.
anyway, i consist stability is the most important to the router. if there is unstable with reboot or wan died, that's nothing useful for too many functions.

ok.. shopping do you have webconfig exposed to WAN ?
if yes that is causing the reboots because someone is portscanning you then..
