Hello,

I've read the forum forth and back, but still do not get my ADSL-connection working. Because I'm still configurating I keep the hardwareconfiguration simple: One pc linked to the router with a networkcable.

I have not changed any settings on the Alcatel Speedtouch Home modem, because I have read people stating that they got it working with a standard, untweaked modem.

My current settings on the wl-500g router are as follows:

IP Config – WAN & LAN

WAN Connection Type: PPTP

WAN IP Setting
IP 10.0.0.150
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 10.0.0.138

WAN DNS Setting
Get DNS automatically? No
DNS 1 194.109.6.66
DNS 2 194.109.9.99

User Name xxxx
Pasword xxxx

LAN IP Setting
IP 192.168.1.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Host Name leeg gelaten

IP Config – DHCP Server
Enable the DHCP Server? Yes
Domain Name Left empty
IP Pool Starting Address 192.168.1.10
IP Pool Ending Address 192.168.1.59
Default Gateway: Left empty

DSN Server 1: Left empty
DNS Server 2: Has automatically the ip of the wl-500g
WINS Server: Left empty

Other settings:
System Setup- Operation Mode = Home Gateway

Firmware of router 1.6.5.3

Can someone help with this?? What am I doing wrong or what am I forgetting?

If I get this thing working I will write a HOWTO on this setup.

I am not sure but try a newer firmware version. 1.6.5.3 might not support pptp. I have the same setup with 1.7.5.6 CR 4.

I have the combination working, however maybe not in the most elegant way.

It is not that difficult, follow this steps in the Quick Setup:

Timezone: obvious
Internet connection type: Cable Modem or other connection type that gets IP automatically.
Information Required by ISP: leave everything empty
WAN IP Setting: IP and DNS automatically
Wireless Interface: set as desired

I think the most important step is the second. Bear in mind that the SpeedTouch (in default state) is not a plain ADSL modem; it's a modem plus router with NAT. So the router doesn't have to login to the modem; the ADSL login is already set up in the modem.

The not so elegant and maybe weird issue is the double router setup, with double NAT: Internet <-> Modem (10.0.0.*) <-> Router (192.168.1.*).

But until now it isn't causing any problems by me. I hope this helps somewhat.

Ronin and Raka,

Thanks for your reply.
At the moment I've got it partially working, with settin: "static ip".
The problem I have now is that only 1 pc can make (a vpn-)connection to the internet.

I will try the things you both mentioned very soon and will keep you informed.
