Thinking on buying a WL-HDD, I've found a similar product : the SparkLan WLDR-100.
http://www.sparklan.com/products_landisk_wldr_100.htm
It seems to have the same functions as the WL-HDD but with 2 USB2 ports

As anybody heard of that product ?
As anybody info on the hardware ? Is it possible to install Oleg or OpenWRT firmware inside ?

Thanks

Interesting. The specifications don't say the processor, but it has 32M of ram and it supports ext2+ext3 (and ntfs read only) so it's probable that it is running a version of linux.
What's the price and where is it available?

I've asked SparkLan about technical spec, they only told me that it's based on a Ralink chip (http://www.ralinktech.com/home.asp) without any precison  .

They have a list of retailer on their site, but none in France :( .

Somebody point me to the SMC SMCWAPS-G which looks (concerning spec) very similar: http://www.smc.com/index.cfm?event=viewProduct&localeCode=EN_USA&pid=1519
For now it's about 30% more expensive than the WL-HDD :( and also was unable get details hardware information.

Nice boxes. :)

Running linux 2.4.26, ralink radio and x86 (!!!) compatible CPU.

Seems like that reference design is by RDC Semiconductor Co. Ltd
http://www.rdc.com.tw/

The flash seems to be 4MB.

The net chip is RDC R6040 - no info
The cpu is probably RDC3210 - also not known

I can find the smc unit (which seems identical to the sparklan one, probably the same oem, so it's just a matter of finding the cheapest rebadger ;) ) for around 110€ shipped (in spain , for comparison an NSLU2 is around 100€ shipped).
The wl-hdd is 80€ shipped, so, yes, it's 35% more expensive, but if it really has 32M of ram and 2 USB2.0 ports and it is hackable it could be a good buy, especially for what I need the device for (http://wl500g.info/showthread.php?t=5195). It has to be seen if it is possible to install a custom linux firmware on it.

In germany you can find it for ~90€ shipped and in france for 120€ (I think without shipping).

According to the initial ramdisk on the latest smc firmware it's 2.4.28, and indeed all binaries are for x86, using uClibc.
