Possible to disable Antenna Diversity??

Hallo,

New Member new question? Sorry if i have overread an answer in other part of that forum - I have serched and read for two days now.

My Problem: We have a "Citynetwork" with 8 DLINK 900ap+ (1 as AP an 7 in Client Mode) all things are ok but we got only 4 Mbit/s because 802.11b.

For different reasons (Your Forum is the biggest, but also the very good Routing Features, WDS, RSMA Connectors lik DLINK for our external Antennas, and and and...) we decided to try ASUS WL-500g.

Very positiv experience The DLINK 900ap+ works also as Client together with ASUS - in the Test-Room.

Problem:

If we use ASUS in Hybrid Mode and the existing Antenna-Infrastrukture (i Think it's professional: Cable LMR400 max. 6 meter and Huber und Suhner 8dBi Antennas) no connection to Client 900ap+ or WDS only ASUS to other locations is possible.

I think, the reason is the Antenna Diversity that swiched fast between internal Antenna (Copper Film on Platine) and external Antenna. At DLINK900ap+ and other AP (Cisco e.g.) you can sellect from 3 options: Diversity / Right (internal) Antenna / Left (external) Antenna. I had the same Problem at DLINK befor i have switched permanently to external Antenna. After that i got sucessfull test links with 1500 meters (LOS)

I wonder if that is also possible at WL-500g? May be with your nice linux implementation?

By the Way I´m not a Linux Prof. Is ther any complete syntax description for your Linux implementation?

Wl500g hw revision 1.0 & 1.4 has only one external antenna. Probably 2.0 has internal antenna. Which is yours hw version (check the firmware upgrade page if you're running 1.7.5.6)?

Oleg, I am sorry but I don't agree with you. I would say the internal antenna is always present - it's directly on PCB of miniPCI wireless card... There are two positions for antenna connectors but only AUX connector is present (and connected by cable to external antenna connector). The Main antenna is a part of miniPCI PCB (printed circuit board) in that case.
In advance the information about HW revision in web configurator is not correct. I saw many units - all HW revision 1.00 (firmware upgrade page). In fact some of them were 2.40 (opened the router case so there was no doubt)...

Back to original question - use wl antdiv and wl txant commands. Try to run wl without parameter to get all possible switches.

There's a small capacitor... I think the position of that capacitor depends on the connector use. If there's connector mounted on PCB (so external antenna is expected), this capacitor is mounted on another place to lead the signal to connector. Otherwise it leads to integrated antenna on PCB. That's my understanding... ;)

I'm using 1.7.5.9 and have tried withot success in this problem 1.7.5.6. Until yet I dont use your customized versions because I'm a unix beginner.

I think definitly there ist diversity on in 1.7.5.6 and 9 (I have put the working ASUS in a Metall-Bag an have seen on netstummbler a 20 dB decrease of transmit power - the external Antenna Port was connected over a 6 meter LMR400 cable to the external 8 dBi Antenna on the rooftop. I could not connect to other Clients in Neighborhood but to my own Test-Client beseide the Alu bag.

Wat is the SW-Version you have spoken about Firmware has fixed antenna diversity for 1.0 & 1.4 ?

All recent firmwares (1.6.5.3, 1.7.5.6, 1.7.5.9) has this setting.

eventually i can fix a photo of an original WL120g card which is in my notebook that has 2 antenna connectors. just PM me as i'm very busy lately

Oleg, you are right. Antenna Diversity is in 1.7.5.9-1 off (antdiv=0 and txant=0). Optionally you can put it on.

I think I have found the Problem (at least one of the problems if there are other to) : I have to change the MAC of the to associate AP in the DLINK 900AP+ to the new ASUS WL-500g.

I will report you later if it is working because i can't change just now (running system).
