Hello
I had my combined wired/wireless 3 PC network working OK until yesterday when for some reason the router has reset itself i.e. SSID name set back to "default" and security set to open instead of my setting of WPA-PSK.
Does this happen a lot?
I don't want to put a software firewall on my PCs as well.
Can anyone think of a way that I can auto detect if my router resets itself again and then disable it to stop external snooping? e.g. as far as I can tell my wired PC will be open for attacks if the router resets itself to being open again.
Lastly, could my router been a victim of a malicious wireless reset?
Cheers

My router has reset itself again to "default", leaving me wide open.

Can no one comment on whether there is anything I can do to alleviate this security risk?

I have only one PC that is using wireless, the other 2 are ethernet'ed. I'm probably going to have to take off the router antenna and go through a load of nonsense checking the router settings everyday before reconnecting the antenna! What a pain!

did you had any power glitches maybe ?

fyi: this is not normal behaviour, the units I own never did this

my brother owned a wl500g which was turned off and on daily, the device lost regular it's settings.. I switched the wl500g with one of my own, since then the particular wl500g never lost it's setting anymore

the new one started behaving the same, now he never turns it off anymore and now it works perfectly

Antiloop,
I always turn the router off when not in use.
This must be the problem. I thought the settings might be remembered on some sort of flash memory or battery supported memory, but the settings go after a period of time that I haven't calculated yet.
Looks like I've got to live with it! (or unplug the aerial to stop freeloaders)
Cheers

you can unplug it for a long time(months), it will keep it's settings but somehow it does not like to be powercycled daily or something regular
