Hi,

since a few weeks, i'm trying to install a Sony Vaio Notebook working with an Asus WL500g Router.
But neither the Wireless LAN Card works, nor the wired connection to the router. When I try to connect with the router (with DHCP) - no matter which way WLAN/LAN - the notebook says: "Acquiring network access".
If i look at the dhcp routing table of the asus router, there is no log of a connection try.

anybody got an idea how to fix this problem?

greetings

Yes, you've to turn on your router. :D
No idea, wired connection should work. Try reseting router to defaults.

;)

the strange thing about it is: the desktop pc is working wired / wireless properly. honestly, i want to avoid restarting the router. it seems to me that the problem is caused by the network preferences of the notebook, but i do not know any more on how to fix it :(

Absolutely no real idea ... but some things you could check or try.

My first focus would be to get the wired connection working, if this works, an unsafe (no encryption) wireless link, and in the end wireless with WPA.

1) Do you have TCP/IP protocol installed? Check properties of LAN connection. Un-install NW-LINK or IPX/SPX protocols if installed (just to be sure)

2) Try setting static IP (and gateway/dns server) for the wired connection ( do you know what your local IP range is? If not or not sure, ask here how to find out)

3) Wired connection still not working? Use the cable your desktop is connected to the router with. And use the same LAN Port on the router.

4) Still nothing? Got a crossover cable? Connect desktop directly with the laptop. Set desktop IP to 192.168.0.1, Laptop IP to 192.168.0.2, turn of XP firewalls, check if they find each other (e.g. ping 192.168.0.x in console or make a windows share).

Only some quick things I would do in your case. Prolly you already did some of em. However ...post results.

Download driver for your Wireless Adapter from Intel site and forget about Sony's and Microsoft's utilities.. I have wl500gx and fs215sr

f*cking b*llshit....i'm fed up....

i looked up the dhcp properties on the asus router, and everything was prefered for dhcp routing. then i define a static ip on the notebook, i restart the nb, and just before the moment when i wanted to configure the router for static ip adresses the laptop is connected.

i better don't ask why this works how it works

thanks for the ideas and the help
