View Full Version : More PCs without NAT
Hii, my cable isp give me 5 IPs so i want to use my WL-500gx only as Firewall without NAT. Is there a way that me can make this? (ip's are all in the same range)

I think you need 2 subnets of IP addresses. One for your internal PC network, and one for the network you are connecting your router to. It may be possible to utilize the adresses you've already got from your ISP, but since this is a router you probably will need two subnets to accomplish what you want.

Another option could be PPPoE relay, so every PC makes his own connection to your provider. This would of course require that your provider allows more than 1 connection (which he prolly did since he also gave you the 5 IPs :p ).
P.S.: not sure about NAT and firewall when using pppoe relay, didn't test it yet.
Me dont have PPPoE its a LAN connect via Cablemodem.
It looks like my ISP use the modem as Gateway with an IP like 111.222.333."1"
and give me 5 IPs in this range. (like 111.222.333.2 - 111.222.333.6)
Maybe me can play with the route table ? (but dont have a clue how to make this :) )

EDIT: may work for other ISPs but not for my one :( my ISP only allow connect from a MAC that me give him and with this arp all my IPs have the same MAC :(
Hello,
I think you have 2 possibilities:
My preferred would be to:
- Change the "Operation mode" in "System setup" menu from "Home gateway" to "Access Point"
- Setup the WL-500G DHCP server to distribute the IPs you have been allocated by your ISP and set the gateway to the IP of your modem cable (for the DNS, I presume you also received the IPs).
Pay attention anyway, and perform some tests to know what the cable modem is routing (broadcast, multicast, ...) because you might end with big security holes with such configuration...
The other solution is somehow similar (set the "Operation mode" to "router") but in this case, your WL-500G will also act as a gateway which is not necessary if your cable modem also have this functionnality.
The only (MAJOR) benefit of this solution would be that you will have the opportunity to use your WL-500G as a firewall between the ISP network and your LAN.
i search also how do these.
Same subnet on wan , lan & wlan on every sides.
and i need firewall in router betweend lan & wlan or wan & lan + wlan
(without nat)
how do that?
Why do you object to using NAT?
The ordinary residential gateway configuration is the easiest to set up and the most dependable because it has been most thoroughly tested. Yes, it will use only one of the IP addresses you have, but what is wrong with that?
