Powersave of usb disk

Hello,

how it is possible to power down the usb harddisk after a longer idle period?
I wanna use an external usb disk 24x7 on my router but want to power down the device after a while to prevent it turning around all the time.
Hopefully the disks will live longer ...

This has been asked before several times, and until now this is not possible unless the external HDD has some built-in power save option by itself.

Here's an Idea:

We could make a list of known HD's that do have powersave built in!
