Newbie: which usb soundcard works fine?

Hi,
i'm a little bit confused about which USB audio adapter to buy.
My goal is to play mp3 out of my external usb hd; i'd like to have something that sounds pretty good plugged to my hifi and is 100% compatible, no hassles to install. I have no use for 5.1 surround or whatsoever, stereo is all i need.
Will any USB soundcard that is linux compatible do fine? I've seen many USB hubs with audio capabilities; anybody can tip me on their audio quality?
For instance, i've seen the "Creative SB Live! USB 24 bit" soundcard in a shop; looks cool, but i'm not sure it is supported.
If you have a positive experience with some device, please let me know.

Hi

You can look into the forum or supported hardware base for usb sound cards.
Mine is a Cmedia CM108 based Audio Stick, got it for 5eur from german ebay.
This works fine here. I think most cheap usb sound sticks should work since they comonly use cheap chipsets with referencedesign wireings inside...
