Hi,
I understand from these forums that some guys are able to create their own firmware and load extra services on the device ...
I would like to make a suggestion for some new development and use the webcam as a real security device.
This seems already possible with normal firmware:
activate motion detection, and images are emailed when motion is detected.
However, I am not happy with the email function. I rather upload the cam images to a server on the Internet via FTP.
It should work as follows:
*motion is detected;
*FTP session is initiated,
*pics are uploaded at the highest possible rate (2 pics per second or so?).
*Each pic is named differently in order to avoid loss of pictures.
I'm not a programming expert, so I hope one of you guys already implemented these features described above, or indicate a full HOWTO (including some functional descriptions etc.) to help me do this myself.
(btw. another reason to do this project is that I would really like to learn these tricks of modifying the firmware, and learn about running Linux on a small device :) ).
Thanks.
