I just bought the WL-500g Deluxe and have been having problems with it for two days. The IP settings seem to be OK and LAN reports no errors. But it won't connect to internet via ADSL modem.
In Network Connections the Internet Gateway is shown, but when I try to activate it, it says Connecting, then dissapears and after a couple of seconds comes back disabled. If I start my internet Connection, it says Connecting through WAN and then nothing happens and it times out.
In My Network Places the Router icon appears randomly. After computer restart, if I run Discovery tool, the router is there, but when I select Configuration, it says Disconnected - "failed to authenticate ourselves to peer". The router is set to Home Gateway and I have ADSL access with static IP and PPPoE.
I've tried to configure network and router, but nothing seems to help. Please help...
Sorry to post this to the wrong section before, it's my first time here.

The authentication protocol of my ISP is CHAP. Could that be the problem?

I changed the mode to Access point with the same settings, and now the Internet access works. But now the same problem appears when I try to connect to the internet via my laptop over the WiFi connection (54k-g). It connects to the router and my computer fine, but won't connect to the internet. Any suggestion what could be done? Thanks.

I'm one of the happy guys with normal dsl (no authentication only on phoneline and the rest is bridged) so I can't help you with the PPPoE stuff etc..
but now you have created an accesspoint, this means that WAN & LAN port are bridged together. I mean thus that your router is acting like a dumb SWITCH with built-in AP and not as router, and perhaps your pc still tries to connect using PPPoE over the switch to your dsl modem

I understand it better now. I guess I'll have to go back to Home Gateway mode and persuade the router to connect to modem and thus to internet. Thus bypassing the Windows connecting and authenticating procedures. Perhaps this will solve it...
I thought this was going to be easier. The "two minute easy setup" promise seems pretty unrealistic. Anyway, thanks for your help. I'll probably need it again before I got this thing working :o .

ehm yes if I understand you right you say it correct :)
about the two minute easy setup, well this is a bit depending on provider etc.. and perhaps the asus itselve.. the more different authentications possible the more difficult it gets to setup correctly

It did work. It seems that the problem was in sinchonization of the devices and not settings. I removed the Windows ADSL connection and reset the modem, then restarted the Windows a couple of times and it just started working out of the blue.
Now if I could just repeat that trick with the laptop over wireless connection...
