etop navi200 router same as wl-500g deluxe ?

Hi,

just wanted to report an story which happened to me. A german Online Hardware shop (Pearl Agency) offered an Router with interesting features:
Okay, routing functions is nothing special, but 2 USB 2.0 ports which can connect HDD, USB sticks and webcams and printers sounded interesting to me. So I ordered one for 89 Euro. BTW without wireless. After that piece arrived I tested an checked and found that the ftp was unstable because copying to the hdd via ftp was very unstable and interrupted after fewhundred MB. Webcam was not supported (Logitech quickcam express), 4 or 5 year old model. After having my 500gx now, I know why the cam wasn't working, missing drivers.

But now the interesting part:
After giving up on that router I bought the WL-500gx and was a little shocked when entering its setup. It has exactly the same GUI. First I thought "Jesus, it is absolutely the same." But the firmware of the WL-500gx seems to be much more improved (especially thanks to the people here).

Now I ask myself (and you) if the 500 firmware could work on that router.

the texst at http://www.etopnetwork.com.tw/product/navi/200spec.htm seems to be copied right away from asus, or at least the book 'Asus World' which is released by asus so now and then

can you get your hands on screenshots from the other device?

Well, most probably the only similar thing is the web interface.
Firmwares are different. The firmware from the link above seems to be encrypted somehow. But it's 5x smaller than ASUS firmware.

One thing is sure though, the box it comes in is ugly as hell :p

Jeez, if you want to sell something, at least make it look attracting...

will post picture of inside this evening. It is using ARM7. There a two 5 pin headers on the board. Maybe USB ? We might see if picture is up. BTW: Stupid question, how do I put a image into the thread ?

Well this board is definately NOT identical to the Asus WL-500g.

Asus uses a MIPS based CPU from Broadcom while this one uses an ARM based CPU from Samsung. These two chips are totally different, so a binary firmware release from Asus or Oleg will definately not work on one of these.
