After much struggling (during which I have read and learned a lot from this forum), I set up my WL-500g.deluxe as a wireless client using the 1.9.2.7-cr3 firmware. What I was trying to set up (and succeeded) was to have my netgear 624 router hooked up to my DSL modem, and my 500g.deluxe hook up wirelessly to the 624 router as a client so that it could serve as a print server, network storage and AP.

Everything is essentially working fine. I can access the internet through the WL-500g, I have my internet storage and print server.

I set the WL-500g.deluxe to Home gateway
In wireless I set it to AP. I set the channel and the SSID to agree with my other router. In wireless->advanced I set it to either station or ethernet bridge.

My first question is: what is the difference between station and eth. br modes since I did not see any difference? In either of those modes, the lan ports are acting as a switch and to access the router, I have to go through the wan port.

In the other router, I set a static IP address for the WL-500g and forward connections to the WL-500g gateway address.

I can ping from a computer attached to the WL-500g to any other hooked up to the netgear. I can ping from any other computer to the WL-500g router, but not to a computer attached to the WL-500g. Second question: How could I correct this?

Since I wanted to use the Lan ports rather than the wan port I set the advanced wireless settings to ethernet bridge, then through telnet I sent the command: brctl delif br0 eth0 which gives me the lan ports. Question 3: how can I make this survive a router reboot?

Question 4. Is there anything that I am overlooking in terms of set up? I do have security (only WEP but some devices won't do better), but is there anything I am overlooking with the WL-500g.deluxe security?

Thanks

Mark
