View Full Version : Routing Question
hi all,
i just have this question: i have my wl500g router and another router, supllied by my ISP company. I would like to acess to the admin interface of my ISP's router without unplug the ethernet cable from the asus and plug it on my ISP's router. So my question is: is it possible to configure the asus router so that you can access the admin interface on the other router?
thanks

Yes, it is possible and there should not be any problem with that. You have to see if your ISP router is configured on bridge mode or not. If it is not configured on bridge mode you should check the IP address the ISP router gives to your Asus router is not on the same network as Asus LAN. In other words, check the WAN IP adress on the Asus router is not on the same IP range as the LAN range on the Asus.
hi, thanks for your reply,
i didn't understood the bridge part, my ISP router is in the same ip range of the ASUS router. so there's a problem right? should i just change the ranges of the asus router?
ps: ISP router specs: built-in modem, most features/advanced settings locked, ip:192.168.1.254 (i think it also responds to 10.0.0.1),dhcp starts at 64 and ends at 253.
ASUS router specs: wan port connected to ISP router, assigned ip 192.168.1.64, own ip(admin) 192.168.1.1, local lan 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.5.
thanks
Not sure if i understand what your problem is.
But i would say:
Put your asus in 'accesspoint mode' and you should be fine.
Be sure to have only 1 dhcp server active if you have devices that don't use fixed ip addresses.
my asus is in "home gateway" mode. i want it to keep it that way. my question is this: i have a cable modem, that goes on the asus WAN port. this cable modem has its own admin page. i want to be able to access it behind the asus. is it possible? thanks

For what you want to do, ISP router specs and ASUS router specs should not be the same. As you wrote ISP router is configured as 192.168.1.254 and ASUS router as 192.168.1.1 (I suppose both with mask 255.255.255.0). Try to change one of them to 192.168.2.1 instead.
thanks a lot :d it did the trick!
