UART

Hi,
UART works fine in connecting to COM1 of my computer. However, when I connected TX of UART to RX of the same UART, whatever I typed did not return back to me. Is it correct? Where did I made wrong?

I also connect TX of COM1 on my computer to its own RX. The result is the same. What's wrong with my expectation?
