View Full Version : internet via vpn
i want to connect to internet via vpn-server from asus
is this possible with asus wl-500g and how?
after all i want to get to the internet by all computers that are connected to asus.
it should connect to the vpn-server in lan and share this connection to the computers in my little network.
pass through would not work, cause i can only establish one vpn-connection.
Yes, this thing is called PPTP.
ok
and how can i connect from asus to the vpn-server?
Just select PPTP in the connection type and provide other details - your IP address, network mask, VPN server address (gateway), username/password.
Depending on the server type you will probably need to install latest custom firmware.
Ehhh.. but if your VPN server is not a gateway, pptp client will not work.
I change gateway address to the VPN server address and have added routing there manually.

asus can connect to LAN, i get an ip adress from DHCP server. and i can ping vpn-server.
though i entered user name and passwd he doesn't login on vpn-server and doesn't give me an error message.
i chose bigpond as wan type, because if i choose pptp, i can't receive ip adress automatically. what do i do wrong?
in windows, it's no problem: just type user name, password, vpn ip address
maybe its that problem that the vpn server is not a gateway.
what can i do? firmware version: 1.9.2.7-3b
thats what i did:

There is no problem - just setup static routing.

There is no way to use both DHCP and PPTP - better ask your ISP to supply static address in their LAN to you (you do not need external address, just an address in their LAN).

it works in windows, why not with this router?
better ask your ISP to supply static address in their LAN to you
i'm afraid that's not possible
Ok, flash windows to your router.
It does not work due to built-in logic. It will not work automatically in the they you want. Try 1.7.5.9-5 firmware it should allow auto ip for PPTP, just set ip to 0.0.0.0.
ok i tried with firmware 1.7.5.9-5
it says in system log after set pptp connection:
Jan 1 00:00:21 daemon.notice pppd[448]: pppd 2.4.1 started by (unknown), uid 0
Jan 1 00:00:21 daemon.notice pppd[448]: local IP address 10.64.64.64
Jan 1 00:00:21 daemon.notice pppd[448]: remote IP address 10.112.112.112
Jan 1 00:00:24 daemon.notice pptp[480]: fatal[get_ip_address:pptp.c:314]: gethostbyname: name server error
Jan 1 00:00:24 daemon.notice pppd[448]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/0
now i can't even ping the vpn-server
if i try bigpond then i can ping vpn-server but it doesnt log in
system log:
Jan 1 01:00:25 user.notice dhcp client: bound IP address 10.10.125.108 from server 10.10.124.1

i found a pptp-client for linux. is it possible to install it on the asus AP and how?
http://www.rsn.uni-rostock.de/de/einrichtung/pptp_linux/index.html
download (http://download.rsn.uni-rostock.de/pptp_linux/pptp-linux-1.3.1.tar.gz)
This is already included in all firmwares. You just need to get static IP address from your ISP and it will start working.
but i don't get a static ip. :-(
i suppose my isp won't make an exception.
is it possible to connect to vpn-server via telnet and how?
use, 1.7.5.9-5 then, but supply numeric ip address of your pptp server instead of it's name.
i always used the ip address of the pptp server!
