View Full Version : Change Samba name
Hello,
I have a question. When i open Mijn Netwerk Locaties (In English: My network Places) i see this:
http://members.home.nl/m.brand/wl500g/Screenshot.JPG
The name of the samba server is: Samba 1.9.18p10
Can i change this name to File server or something?
Thx :)
No, unless you manually edit /etc/smb.conf.
No, unless you manually edit /etc/smb.conf.
What must be changed in smb.conf? I have searched www.samba.org but could not find anything?
server string =
Hmm.. that doesn't work.
When i typ in cmd: "net view" i see this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>net view
Servernaam Opmerking
------------------------------------------------
\\ASUS-WL500G Samba 1.9.18p10
\\BENNIE
\\MAARTEN
De opdracht is voltooid.
But when i typ this: net view \\ASUS-WL500G is says:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>net view \\ASUS-WL500G
Gedeelde bronnen op \\ASUS-WL500G
Asus WL500g File Server
Sharenaam Type Gebruikt als Opmerking
-------------------------------------------------------------------
All-Users Schijf Asus WL500g File Server
Users Schijf Asus WL500g File Server
De opdracht is voltooid.

Server string = Asus WL500g File Server
doesn't show the name in My Network Places, only when i use net view \\192.168.100.2

did you reboot windows after changing stuff in smb.conf ? (and did you restart smb or the router after changing stuff) ?
