Help! Can the external HD be a multi-media server in the home

Hi dears! It is my first time to post the message in this forum! :)

I want to make the external HD be the multi-media server shared by two computer but I olnly can set the external HD be a ftp server.
If I want to paly serval songs under the ftp server, I need to dowload the song one by one and I can't edit the playlist in the Winamp.
In this situation, if I want to play the movie, I need to download the movie file first. I think it is impossible and stupid! The file is about 4GB.

1.How can I set the external HD be the multi-media sever like Buffalo LinkStation?
2.Do I need a third party software?
3.Or how can I make the setting in the WL500g menu?

If you decide to use custom firmware, then you will be able to access your hdd as shared drive in windows.

Hi dears:

I have already downloaded the lastest firmware and the source code from the web page! But I can't find any different or new tools in the menu after I flash the firmware directly! And I don't know the use of the source code! did I need to use the souce file to recomplice the firmware?

How can I make the new firmware?

Did I need to download the original firmware from Asus?

What is the next step I should proceed? Can I find the procedure of recompliance of firmware from the old post?

This is my first to use the wireless router! I am fresh and I need the help! Thx a lot!
