Bekijk de volledige versie : WL-500G USB 2.0 capable ?
Hi,
I've read that the latest WL-500G units are powered by a Broadcom 4333 chip in replacement of the *old* 4702, and this guy is USB 2.0 capable... :D :D :D no more news have been made available on this forum since then, would this mean that the WL-500G could support USB 2.0 provided that a firmware supports it ?
That would be really cool ... would definitely make sens to hang a huge HDD to this wonderful router ! ;)
I think you should search this forum for WL-500gx or Deluxe version...
The pictures that show a BCM4333 were taken by me. Most probably this ic was just mislabeled at the factory, as the 4333 is in fact a chip vor usb-wlan-adapters - it is used for example in the Buffalo AirStation WLI-USB-G54.
I know that the GX version make use of a different chip, same chip used in Linksys WRT-54 series... If the BCM4333 is powering the Buffalo AirStation WLI-USB-G54, that means it's designed to be a USB slave device and not host, so no cheap half-ways upgrade to the GX :( :(
Thx for the info ! :o

Is there a command to see which broadcom chipset is being used? I wouldn't doubt if the newer WL500G's are using the "B" chipset which I believe has USB 2.0 support.
Thanks,
Cal
I also have a recent WL500G (US model).
So, it would be a very nice surprise if it could handle usb2.0... :)
but I don't think so.. because if it did, then there would be no sense in using a different chipset for the Deluxe version...
here's the listing:
[admin@(none) root]$ dmesg | grep Broadcom
Linux version 2.4.20 (root@omnibook) (gcc version 3.2.3 with Broadcom modifications) #4 Thu Dec 16 23:32:43 MSK 2004
eth0: Broadcom BCM47xx 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller 3.90.7.0
eth1: Broadcom BCM47xx 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Controller 3.90.7.0
eth2: Broadcom BCM4320 802.11 Wireless Controller 3.90.7.0
wl500g does NOT support USB 2.0.
