View Full Version : KPN ADSL / Speedtouch Pro / WL-500g
I tried for several hours now, I don't get it working on any way. Only dhcp spoof worked on one pc but not on the other four with same settings.
I searched the forums but there isn't a real solution listed, only somebody who says that it finally worked but without giving the solution.
I want the WL-500g to handle all the routing and firewall things. The speedtouch only has to be modem.
I tried DHCP spoof, SIP spoof, bridge mode, pptp and ppp mode. But nothing worked out ok for me
Can you guys give the stablest way and how to configure it? Or a link to a how-to.
KPN - Wanadoo ADSL
Alcatel Speedtouch home/pro
ASUS WL-500g
Check this thread. There seem to be two solutions.
1. let the speedtouch do all the work
2. set spoofing right
http://wl500g.info/printthread.php?t=581
I want to do the spoofing right but I tried like 100 times and I probably do something stupid wrong.
What spoofing should I use, DHCP or SIP?
DHCP spoof:
http://www.bruring.com/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=7&page=1
I do this guide. ^
DHCP_spoof
vpi 8
vci 48
type ppp
I do the configuring of the speedtouch.
How must I set the asus now?
Automatic ip etc
The lan settings I have: 10.0.0.1 in 255.255.255.0
For the pc's I use the 10.0.0.2 - 10.0.0.20 in 255.255.255.0 range.
I this post (http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=8378&postcount=20) a user has connection with KPN ADSL, so it is possible.
Maybe your problem is that you have the same subnet on the WAN side as on the LAN side (10.x.x.x). Try to setup your WL-500g to give your LAN a 192.168.1.x IP address.
Edit: I get your question wrong :o
You want to let only one pc connecting to internet using the internet IP address?! I have no idea how you can do that. It seems to me like som sort of bridgeing, but thats apperantly not the case.

Does your modem has mode called bridging?
Anyway, you need to turn ppp off on the modem and setup wl500g with pppoe. This way it should work (but this requires no lock on MAC address done by your provider).
If you've a link to english manual for your modem - please point to it, I will try to figure out right settings...
Alternatively, you could configure wl500g for Automatic IP for the WAN, and default address range (192.168.1.x) on the LAN. But this requires, that your modem assign right address to wl500g (try cloning MAC address of your PC).
No no, I have 3 pc's and 1 wireless laptop connected to the asus. I want the asus to handle the NAT etc.
The modem has a function called bridge in the menu.
http://home.wanadoo.nl/vsteenis_adsl/stprowf_guide.pdf
is the manual I think.
I'll try the other lan ip range now...
If you want to use WL-500g for NAT and such, you'll have to setup your modem in bridging mode. Your WL-500g will get a 10.0.0.x IP from your provider. Set the DHCP server of the WL-500g to serve your LAN 192.168.1.x IP's.
Ok, write down all the settings, which are working with just PC attached to the modem.
When I set the WL-500g to 192.168.1.1, it doesn't see the modem, because in another ip range, and says it's disconnected in the status screen but the lights on the modem and router are green.
I use this when working and viewing this forum:
Speedtouch: 10.0.0.138
PPP connection with my provider.
Asus WL-500g: ip: 10.0.0.1 - subnet: 255.255.255.0
Access point mode
pc1: ip: 10.0.0.3 - subnet: 255.255.255.0 - gateway: 10.0.0.138
pc2: ip: 10.0.0.4 - subnet: 255.255.255.0 - gateway: 10.0.0.138
pc3: ip: 10.0.0.5 - subnet: 255.255.255.0 - gateway: 10.0.0.138
So I need to configure bridge on my modem:
phonebook:
name: BRIDGE
VPI: 8
VCI: 48
type: bridge
encap: LLC/snap
DHCP server: OFF
DNS server: OFF
Do i need more settigns in my modem?
Then ASUS settings?
PPPoE
automatic ip
login data
lan ip: ?
lan subnet: ?
dhcp settings:
...
I need to know current mode - PPPoE Routed or whatever?
Phonebook

PPP

PPP config
http://home.wanadoo.nl/vsteenis_adsl/pppconfig.JPG
It's doing NAT and stuff with this mode, i can open ports etc by telnetting 10.0.0.138
ok, which "Types", other than bridge and ppp you've in the phonebook?
bridge, ppp, cip and pptp
ok, in the ppp configuration disable ppp completely.
you may need to delete ppp from phonebook as well.
add bridge entry to the phonebook, giving the same vpi/vci.
on the wl500g - flash it with 1.9.2.7-1 (this just to see more output in the system log), reset it to defaults,
set connection type to pppoe, enter your username and password, leave other things as is.
connect wl500g wan port to the speetouch lan port.
Reconfigure your PC to get IP address automatically (if you've not done this yet), and connect it to the LAN port of the wl500g. Refresh your PC IP address, it should be from the 192.168.1. network, open wl500g in the browser and check system log for pppoe messages.
This should work, unless your ISP blocked your account to use speedtouch MAC (but you will see errors in the wl500g log anyway). If it does not work - post log here.
Also, I'm suggesting you to print images which you've just posted, to be able to get back.
Also, the link which you've posted for manual is for other model as seems.
It doesn't work.
It says it's disconnected or something:

Don't worry about getting back to it, I know every setting straight out of my head.
Looks like pppoe discovery does not work, this could be a MAC filter on the ISP side. Can you check on that?
Does your speedtouch allows mac cloning? If so, try to put IP address of your PC or wl500g and check, that it works in ppp mode. If it does not, that probably MAC address is locked.
My ISP doesn't block mac adresses...
I've had other routers connected to it without problems.
Other modems etc.
Mac adress is no problem @ kpn/wanadoo
Ok, if you've windows xp, then you could try to establish pppoe connection from it first...
Have you rebooted speedtouch after switching to bridge mode?
I'm going to try now one more time with rebooting everything...
wish me luck.
Nope I still get the same error in system log.
DHCP spoof or SIP spoof a solution if PPPoE doesn't work?
Ok, if you've windows xp, then you could try to establish pppoe connection from it first...
Have you rebooted speedtouch after switching to bridge mode?
how do I establish a dial in PPPoE in windows xp?
I've no idea what is SIP spoof.
Yes, try dhcp spoof. You need to setup wl500g WAN port for automatic IP, leaving other settings as is.
As for speedtouch - which options are offered for DHCP spoof?
how do I establish a dial in PPPoE in windows xp?
Start New Connection Wizard, Select Connect to the Internet, then Set up my connection manually, then Connect using a broadband connection that requires user name and password (PPPoE), then type the ISP name (the name for the connection, not very important), then user name and password, then finish.
You may also need to assign static IP address to your PC.
SIP_spoof is to get your external ip on your network card (or router).
But dhcp_spoof is almost the same.

According to this post it uses pptp. So, you need to configure speedtouch to bridge mode, while wl500g should use pptp.
Ok tried DHCP_spoof:

Ok, post details then.
Ok... I'll try to post the most of it now. I'll add more when I'm home again.
I used the Xs4all post settings:

He should send this to amrensen in fact.
For me it's strange, that speedtouch is also configured for pptp...
Hmmm... the pptp connection is not that stable...
It's dropping out many times...
Ok tried DHCP_spoof:
I get external ip on router but I don't have internet on my computers.
http://home.wanadoo.nl/vsteenis_adsl/status.JPG
What I see from this capture is the following:
- Strange Network mask.
Normally a netmask is a bit pattern with binary 1's that indicate the network part and binary 0's for the network part. E.g. a class C subnet mask looks binary as follows: 11111111.11111111.11111111.00000000 (255.255.255.). So there are no 0's in the Network part.. The mask in the screencapture is binary 1010001.0000000.00000000.0000000 which does not comply to the normal subnet mask rules.
- The DNS server points to 10.0.0.138 which migth not work since this is the IP adress of the LAN side of the ADSL modem. Is the ASUS configured with an IP adress/alias in the 10.0.0.0 range?
How are the current IP settings?
Regards,
Marco

<<< image removed >>>
Hmmm in this output there is a subnet mask of all 1's which means no subnet at all... My IP knowledge tells me that in this case the router might have a problem reaching the default gateway, but since it is a single connection/wire towards the modem it might work...
Hmmm well, I used this PPTP connection for a while...
But i'm not happy with it. It's dropping out many many times...
Is there another method to connect than pptp?
because of dropping...what model of speedtouch do you use?
Maybe you change the settings of your ST to dial and not your asus?
kpn is big enough, call support if they can help you to change your modem-settings.
if your ST is dialing you just set your asus to WAN=10.0.0.1, SN=255.255.255.0 GW=10.0.0.138.
LAN: IP=192..?, DNS=10.0.0.138
Nevermind I've got it running on another way..
Speedtouch dials and forwards.. (pro mode)
Now i've got another problem of my 2 gameservers being unreachable from the outside.
It's Quake 3, and Call of Duty..
I've forwarded (virtual server) 27960 both (udp and tcp) and 28960 both to the internal ip 192.168.1.5
I can't find what i'm doing wrong?
edit: a serv-u ftp server running on the same machine is reachable.

I've tested and tested and tested...
Finally someone just scanned all servers reported by ASE and mine was in it.
But the port ????

I haven't forwarded that, and my computer is listening to 27960, lan is also 27960.
