WL500gp with an external HD?

Hi there and sorry for he stupid question..
BUT!
how do i connect an external HD to my WL500gp?
i have a maxtor 250GB (2 partitions both 125GB and both FAT32) connected to the router but when i try to share it over the network i cannot see any folder (under the share nodes..)
am i doing something wrong?

sorry guys but my question was a little more "simple"
what i mean is.. can't i just use the router as it is? without installing samba or whatever and still have access to the external hardrive?
