Please help - I'm going mad down here in Oz
Alcatel Speedtouch Pro - reconfigured as a bridge
WL500g setup using quick setup - everything set as automatic as it can be
ADSL - not cable
I get it all working - then after a little time - though this varies, I can still print to the printer, but my internet connection goes down (though the PC says it's still ok)
All I can do is reset and redo.
I'm sure some of these posts are answering similar issues - but I cannot understand this 'set DNS manually', or exactly figure what DHCP is supposed to be where!
THank you to ANY responses to help.

try upgrading your firmware.

How do I do that exactly - and I can see in all the posts that there are lots of versions of firmware - which one should I choose - and where are they exactly - I tried clicking in the 'firmware' lists but that's just text, not a file - what exactly am I fixing - is my problem a 'WAN dropout'?
(The connection between the wl500g and the internet (via my speedtouch pro) is failing.)
Thanks again,
Peter

perhaps you have the WAN die problem..

upgrade to firmware 1.8.2.4, that firmware should solve the problem

follow manual for upgrading

http://files.wl500g.info/asus/wl500g/firmware/

I'm using 1.8.1.7-2a and so far, I haven't noticed any problems.

(I bought my wl500g just a week ago... all seems to be ok..)

Have you ever tried using search?
You NEED to reset to defaults after performing an upgrade from firmwares earlier than 1.8.x.x
Without a reset, login is an empty string and the password is default one.

I guess this stuff is so easy for you - I just can't believe how long it's taken me so long to sort this - so I asked first rather than searched this time.
So now, even though I think the latest firmware has set some kind of internet firewall by default - I'll have a hunt through all the posts to see if I'm right. I think I need one/!
And I'll try and work out what NAT is and whether or not I need it enabled!
The fact you guys are there to help with this stuff is amazing.
Please don't lose patience with the newbies!
I'll try not to post again.
Thanks again

it's noted at every firmware release, but forgotten to add to the custom firmwares. And this question has been asked so many times that we loose a bit of patience as we see this particulair question every week coming by again.
