View Full Version : WL-500g recognized as WL-500bv2
Hi all,
Just bought and installed the WL500g. All works fine; I have connection with my only wireless device; a Dell AXIM 30 h (802.11b).
There is only one gripe:
In the ASUS Device Discovery utility my router is recognized as WL500bv2.
Connecting to the webmanager via http://my.WL500g shows "page not found". Connecting via http://my.router or http://my.WL500b shows the webmanager for the WL500b. With this WL500b manager I'm not able to let my router function in the 802.11g mode.
I have searched this forum but I couldn't find any problem like this
Who can help me?

bought it at Mycom?
anyway do a firmware recovery (read manual)
and update with an WL500g firmware
Yep, bought it from Mycom at the HCC-days in Utrecht.
So this is a known problem??
THX 4 your help, I'll try that.

you're the second one I hear about ( see also this dutch thread: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_message/22139752#22139752 )
either it are wrong flashed units or wrong labeled units, which I would like to know
and you can find out if it's wrongly flashed by flashing correct WL500g firmware into it (ps use firmware recovery tool otherwise unit will refuse to eat another version of firmware)
after flashing restore also settings to default (also with the restore button, but then while it's powered on)
Just phoned with Mycom. I was told that this problem is known.
It only can be fixed by asus so I have to change it for a real WL-500G

yeah well they know nothing about the device..
a wl-hdd can be turned into a wl500g as well.. (for webinterface) thus vicaversa the same for your wl500g
THX Antiloop for your help :)
I had this problem as well. I bought a WL-500g from the auction on the MyCom website. On the label at the bottom of the device it stated it was a WL-500g, however according to the web config page it was a WL-500b (device ID WL500bv2). Tried the Firmware Recovery Procedure (unplugging power then holding restore button while plugging in power again until LED flashes) as Antiloop suggested, used the WL-500g firmware downloaded from the Asus website, and it indeed worked! It's a WL-500g (again)!
So it would seem Asus got a batch of WL-500g's flashed with the wrong firmware I guess. :D
Thanks and regards.
