New firmware is now available (http://oleg.wl500g.info/1.9.2.7-8/).

Changes:

Patched to WL-500W 1.9.8.5 firmware base code (New drivers for wl and et: 4.108.9.0)
Added support for WL500W
Added support for WL320gE/gP, additional lights are not supported (use WL550gE firmware)
Added a handling for DHCP supplied routes (Use Route page to enable/disable)
Multicast/IPTV: no longer need routes to be specified, cleaned up igmp logs
It's now possible to specify DNS server IP address in the AP mode (added to IP Config page)
Added new flashfs option: try 'flashfs enabled' to enable flashfs loading forever
Added new http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable repository: use 'ipkg.sh install ipkg-opt' during initial ipkg installation
Fixed PPPoE clamping code (set Maximum Segment Size to actual MTU)
L2TP: server name resolution, persist/reconnect fixes
NFS: added statd for proper locking
SMB: Server string, new r/w share mode
/etc/fstab: swapon and post-mount called now properly
USB storage detection should work correctly for Philips mass storage devices
/proc/cpuinfo now reports CPU model, revision and packaging options
Changed connection tracking TCP timeout to 6 hours vs. 5 days
Some WL-HDD IDE fixes
Yet more fixes for built-in flash support (WL-500gP, WL-500W)
Some minor kernel fixes

Hi! great work on the firmware.

I flashed yesterday the new FW on my WL500gP
now the "Air" LED donīt get off when I disable Wlan under System & Log -> Wireless ->Disable.
On the 1.9.2.7-7g FW it works.

Oleg,
is it possible to add su in the next versions of your firmware? Now to have it you need to install coreutils, which includes a whole bunch of utilities.
Kind regards,
Alexander

Well, this is just how new wi-fi drivers work. I've no control on this. :(

What are the differences between the 2 feeds?
Why should I use one instead of the other?

Edit: Does the 'opt' version of mediatomb work?

Hi,
i upgraded my wl 500g firmware from 1.9.2.7-7c to 1.9.2.7-8. After this upgrade i have problems with the stability of my wireless connection. After some time connection drops down and the computer try to establish the connection but it drops again in a few seconds (no network). Computer is trying to connect but after 5-10 seconds is again disconnected and it continues like that. When i restart the router connection is stable and ok again but after some time (30-60 minutes) it begins to connect and disconnect again. My OS is Win XP. Could anybody help me please? thx.

I have the same problem after upgrading my WL500g Deluxe. After 11 hours the wireless network became unstable. The wired connections were stable and there was no entries in the syslog indicating any errors in the router. I have downgraded to see if this solves the problem.

Guys. WiFi problems are often caused by Auto channel setting. Switch to fixed channel and it will work much better.

Hi Oleg, thanks for your work.

Firmware v1.9.2.7 CR8 support WDS with WPA+PSK with extend mode WDS?

I canīt connect both wl500g with this...

Is any way to do this?

Will this work on my WL-500g ("normal", not Deluxe version)?

I have the official Asus 1.9.5.0 firmware installed atm.

And is there a web configuration page still? Or do I need to do everything via the console?

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Can anyone answer this, or is it a secret?:)

The question is incorerct.
There are two feeds in the repository:
unslung/wl500g (old)
optware/oleg (new)
The short answer is: use a new one and uclibc-opt and ipkg-opt are required packages for it.

Afterwards, you will anyway use 'ipkg' command to manage your packages.

Yes, this firmware works perfectly on a "simple" WL500g (use this one (http://oleg.wl500g.info/1.9.2.7-8/WL500g-1.9.2.7-8.zip)).
The ASUS web interface configuration is still available, a bit improved with news features included in Oleg's firmware.

Do not hesitate, just flash ;)

Upgraded from 1.9.2.7-7g to 1.9.2.7-8

Cannot run mpd now:
User defined signal 1
immediatly when trying to start

Anyone succeded ?

Upd:
lighttpd - same error
Think it was my mistake. I didn't save flashfs in webui before upgrade and, of course, cannot restore it after upgrade.
Probably missing some files....

I tried to upgrade again, and changed my channel from 13 to 12, since then the wireless has been stable for 7 days now as long as I use a laptop with Atheros wireless card, but the connection from a laptop with a Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card the connection is unstable, so I had to downgrade to the 7g version again to be able to use both my laptops.

I have an issue with wireless.

My WL500g is used as wireless access point only. Another machine is doing DHCP and the routing job.
When i wake up my PC from hibernation it fails to autheticate to the wireless network. I have to reboot in order to be able to connect.......

My laptop is using a Ralink RT61 based card. I have the same issue on my desktop PC with a Ralink RT2500 card......

I'm using WPA-PSK with AES......... I had no prolem wit 1.2.9.2.7g

Edit :Finally my main WL500 died yesterday evening, i guess the WLAN card gave up because it is still working fine for wired conections......Strange coincidence...... I replaced it with my other one and now it is working fine with older firmwre i will give the new one a try.

It is a pity, because WDS with WPA seemed to work :)

BTW: is there an easy way to get the wireless MAC of the WL500Gx (get it from the router-menu or alike)?

so, by this was filled 5x 200kb syslog files.
Using DHCP on my WIRELESS PC I couldnot connect. Using Fixed IP is everything works fine.

Any comments, why the DHCP hangs?

Hi Oleg,

upgraded from the previous release and it works great. Thank you for your effort!

Is it possible to upgrade dnsmasq to the latest version? The version which is included doesn't have support for tagging based on mac addresses (usefull for openvpn clients).

Allright...wrong question

I've compiled dnsmasq myself, since the dnsmasq version at this location (http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/oleg/cross/stable/) has IPv6 support compiled in, which results in a "Protocol not supported" error. Strange actually, but recompiling seemed easier yesterday ;)
By the way, I've also found out that mounting iso images to directories does not work right away. You have to manually create symlinks to the loop devices. I think it has something todo with devfs support (but I'm not sure). Anyway, you have to create symlinks from /dev/loop0 to /dev/loop/0 (and that for all 8 loop devices if you want to mount several images). Maybe you can fix the next version of the rom to include these symlinks?

Right now, I've added the following lines to my post-boot script:

for l in 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 ; do
ln -s /dev/loop/$l /dev/loop$l
done

which also works fine.

Looks like a bug in busybox.

Yes, I suppose. I've upgraded to BusyBox 1.8.1, but that didn't solve the problem. I've seen a bug report about this issue, but the resolution was something like: disable devfs in the kernel :(

I'll try to recompile version 1.8.2 tonight and see if that makes any difference.

Problems with rtorrent and firmware v1.9.2.7 CR8

Trying to use rtorrent from opt-ware source, but after upgrading from 1.9.2.7-7g i get:

Storage error: [File chunk write error: Success.

Trying to download torrent to vfat partition. And I'm using screen for being able to detach rtorrent. Using a wl500gx.

Will downgrade now, but if anyone can think of whats causing this then I would be thank full.

Encounter the same problem with Intel 2200BG. On another Compaq notebook using Broadcom wlan chipset, works perfectly fine. In my case, the problem started after I upgraded the firmware to the official Asus firmware 1.9.7.5 release.

This is what I get from Intel's website which sort of describe similar problem and the solution for the problem we're encountering :
- PSP (Power Save Polling) Causes Connection Issues With Some Access Points --> http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/cs-006205.htm

- 802.11 Association Lost with Cisco* AP Configured for World-Mode Legacy
--> http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/sb/CS-022146.htm

- Stop Message When Running Older Intel Drivers after Upgrading Cisco* AP Firmware --> http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro2200bg/sb/CS-022538.htm

The first suggestion I tried but problem persisted. Is there any way to disable "World-Mode Legacy" in the Asus WL-500gP??

Oleg
17-12-2007, 18:10
Hm... I see now. 802.11d is disabled at the moment. Perhaps I've to move this setting to the web iface.
You could try adjusting nvram variables:

To force 802.11d setting:

nvram set wl_reg_mode=d
nvram commit
reboot

To force 802.11h setting:

nvram set wl_reg_mode=h
nvram commit
reboot

To disable regulations:

nvram set wl_reg_mode=off
nvram commit
reboot

after this, ipkg hangs and I have to reboot to get anything working on the commandline again.

the same happens when I just run ipkg update / ipkg upgrade.
I have about 46 MB total memory and >300MB diskspace left on my usb stick
that is mounted on /opt (ext3)
Anyone with a solution?
