net works, but cannot access usb disk or web-gui

My W500.g premium router has worked great for months until suddenly when it refused access to the usb disc and the web admin interface - though the internal and external net works just fine (both cable and wlan). I've tried rebooting, connecting via telnet ++, nothing works. I had to reset and set it up again to fix it. It worked great again for another 2 weeks, but today I can't access the usb disc or the web interface again..

What's causing this? I'm using the firmware that came with the router and haven't modded it in any way. And can I fix it without resetting it?

After posting this on some other forums, as well as on the official asus support forum, I have still not received any answer. So I guess this is either a very dumb question or a very unique problem.. (though I think the latter is the most likely of the two).

Anyone who can suggest what I can try to do?
