looking at buying one of these units this week but would like to know if it can be upgraded to the 1TB or 2TB drives, also if i installed a new firmware or custom firmware would i have to format and start again :(

i have looked into large drives and it seems that they only make 750gb pata drives. when you update firmware do you have to format the drive?

when you install a new hd you have to install/tftp the trx file of 1.0.4.2 then install the nas file with the firmware restoration tool...

I have not tried that before, but if you want to upgrade to a bigger disk, why not try my advice you can find here:

Maybe it does not work, but you won't loose a bit either.

thankyou for all your help, i bought the unit and installed the firmware 1078, not sure what the trx file is but it seems to work, i notice on the install disk there is a gpl folder with couple of large tar files, what are they for.
also i am sending files over from a lanshare unit to the front usb and its saying 20hr to copy 50gb, i have 500gb to send is there a faster way, as it dosnt seem like 480mb usb, i could send it to the desktop quicker
