Hello,

I have a problem. Since yesterday, I have the ASUS WL 500g and a WL-100g card on my laptop. The router is connected to a Motorola modem of Casema (Netherlands cable provider). When I reset the modem, i have a 54 Mbit/s connection and I can surf on the internet. But of course I want to secure things.

When I configure the WL500g according to the chupa thread with WEP shared key and MAC filtering, I can't surf on the internet anymore. I have a wireless connection, but it is 11 Mbit/s.

I have flashed the router with the latest firmware of ASUS (1.8.1.9). Also I installed the latest driver for my WL-100g (driver ENG_2201.zip on the ASUS site), by which I can control the settings of the wireless connection. I am using windows XP.

I filled in (and added) my MAC adress correctly in the router settings and followed the "chupa how to" exactly, but as stated above my networking connection is 11 Mbit/s and I can't connect to the internet. :(

Who helps me?

be sure to reset router to configuration defaults properly first

also turn off your wl500g for ten minutes

upgrade windows to SP1 and WPA stuff or SP2

recheck your WEP key, hundreds of people have done this before so it has proven to work but only if you follow it

I have reset the modem to factory defaults several times. This is the only way to connect to internet. The WEP key is OK, I copy pasted it in the router config and in my driver for the WL100g.

When I am back from work tonight, I will turn of the WL500g for 15 minutes and I will install windows XP service pack 2. I'll keep you posted, thanks for your help for so far.

After installing SP2 for windows, my windows has become a mess. I have windows XP HOME edition on my laptop, maybe this is the problem.

I also uninstalled the Asus driver package and reinstalled it manually. The problems remain after turning the router off for 15 minutes serveral times.

I will install windows XP PROFESSIONAL on my laptop tonight. See if that helps...

upgrade drivers to the latest you can find at the board here

assuming you are using wl100g or something as you don't mention it..

2201 is not a version number.. it's in the hardware list and should be something like v3.70.12.0

Where can I find these drivers at the board for my wl-100g? I have looked, but only saw downloads for the wl500g. Are the latest ASUS drivers for the wl-100g OK?
